Contractor/Construction Safety

The goal of Contractor Safety is to extend Environmental Health & Safety’s policies and procedures to contractors performing work at Columbia University.   This is performed through interaction with Capital Projects Management, Facilities Management, and the various contractors working on projects.  It is also established through media, such as CUMC’s Compliance Guidelines, a summary of environmental and safety requirements that must be met by all contractors working on projects at CUMC.  The program defines a set of contractor safety requirements that must be followed during the execution of any project or job on any Columbia University campus or Columbia-owned, leased and/or managed property.

In addition to summarizing many of the EH&S policies and procedures, the program is designed to reflect each of the EH&S program areas and initiatives such as: Fire Safety, the Laboratory Clearance Process, Hazardous Waste Management, and Occupational Safety.
