Hosting a graduate student from the University of Puerto Rico
This is a reference site for Columbia investigators who have expressed interest in hosting University of Puerto Rico students in their labs.
There has been a very strong response for this program in a short amount of time. The investigators who expressed interest represent an intellectually diverse array of opportunities for UPR students who have been affected by Hurricane Maria to visit Columbia labs in order to continue their PhD research.
UPR faculty will have the option to review the lab opportunities that we offer and may reach out directly to Columbia Investigators who signed up if they believe there is a good match. If you are contacted by a UPR faculty with a possible student match, please go ahead and discuss the details, focusing on the educational fit for the student in your lab.
Student appointments and all other aspects of implementation will be undertaken by the relevant graduate schools. Please see the right-hand column of this page for a list of schools’ contacts, to whom you may reach out with questions. Anyone who has heard from a UPR student mentor with a potential match should notify their school contact person to understand the necessary preparations and approvals for moving forward.
Many thanks for your interest in this worthy activity.
