Dr. Chanda started his presentation with possible zoonotic transmission channels and pointed out that cats actually might be highly spreading and therefore warned, to use proper protection when cleaning up domestic cat litters. He then gave an overview about the extraordinary effort his group showed to, partially remote, set up an efficient and high-throughput setup to screen for SARS-CoV-2 inhibitors. They used a collection of over 12,000 known drugs to identify antivirals that inhibit SARS-CoV-2 replication and therefore identify novel drugs for use in the treatment of COVID-19.
