Nevan Krogan, PhD, Professor, Cellular and Molecular Pharmacology, Director, Quantitative Bioscience Institute (QBI), Investigator, J. David Gladstone Institute, University of California San Francisco, "Applying systems approaches to SARS-CoV-2 research reveals targets for drug repurposing"

A more general approach of fighting COVID-19 was presented by Dr. Krogan in his talk. Focusing on the host, he analyzed on the gene level the human and virus genome and identified 332 virus binding genes, from which 69 are suitable for probable drug use. The drugs in question are in all stages of approval, from already approved, from under clinical trial up to pre-clinical laboratory testing. To date, 47 of these were tested for efficiency and 10 showed positive results. He then focused on the identification of the binding channels, especially the filopodia formation, in the pathology of the virus.
