Wenhong Zhang, MD, PhD, Fudan University, Shanghai, China, "Weather the storm, our choices at different crossroads"

Dr. Zhang presented on his team’s experience with the pandemic in Shanghai, China. Due to excellent contract tracing, widespread testing (including for all of those hospitalized whether or not they were symptomatic), Shanghai was able to keep the case load under 700 at the peak in February and the city has now returned to 90% normal. In March, Shanghai began to see a second peak but this was mostly due to nationals returning from abroad. They are able to keep the local transmission low by requiring that those returning undergo quarantine for 14 days and PCR detection. They also heavily utilize contact tracing and fever monitoring in public spaces. Because of these measures, they have seen almost no local cases since the beginning of March.
