Katherine Fritz, BS
Roles and Responsibilities
As the Biological Safety Officer, Katherine is responsible for supporting the University's comprehensive biological safety program at all sites including Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC), Morningside Heights (MH), Manhattanville (MHV), Lamont Doherty Earth Observatory (LDEO) and Nevis Campuses, and affiliate organizations. Katherine provides guidance and consultation to research personnel on biological safety practices and regulatory requirements, including Biosafety Level 1 and 2 laboratory operations, biological materials shipping, and regulated medical waste management. Katherine applies expertise in biological safety regulations and best practices to promote compliance, stays current with evolving scientific and regulatory developments, and collaborates with EH&S colleagues, researchers, and University stakeholders to support the continuous improvement of biosafety programs and address current and evolving health and safety challenges.
