AWS Social Responsibility & Impact Grant

Faculty Interest Form

The Office of Research Initiatives is excited to partner with AWS to offer the Social Responsibility and Impact Grant (SRIG) to Columbia faculty researchers. The grant provides up to $200,000 in AWS cloud credits (not cash) to support cloud-based, socially impactful research that leverages AI/ML or advanced analytics and produces measurable global impact. Current thematic focus areas are Disaster Response, Health, and Education. AWS takes no IP or equity in funded projects, and credits typically last 12 months.
This form collects information from Columbia faculty interested in applying. Because the grant cannot be applied for independently, it must be submitted in partnership with AWS. By completing this form you agree that your responses will be compiled and shared with AWS as part of the application.
Before you begin, please have ready:
  • An active AWS account number or pending AWS account request number (Submit CUIT's AWS account ServiceNow order form if you don't have an AWS account yet).
  • A general sense of your project's resource needs and the AWS services you expect to use.

Eligibility & Requirements

  • Must be PI-eligible.
  • Open to projects in areas like disaster response and education-focused applications of AI.
  • One grant per AWS account ID; no credit sharing between institutions.
  • Requires biannual progress surveys.
  • Can account for number of lives impacted in one year.

Considerations

  • Rolling submissions — apply while funds last.
  • Must have an active AWS account number (CUIT can help create one).
  • Only one SRIG per account; maximum award is $200K in credits.
  • AWS credits do not cover GPU blocks (exceptions made on case-by-case basis)
