Alex Olivares

Roles and Responsibilities

As the Safety Advisor, Alex is responsible for proactively building relationships with University and University-affiliate research personnel to facilitate the delivery of high-quality safety services and guidance across a broad range of disciplines throughout the University’s expansive research enterprise and multiple campuses. Alex maintains a client-focused approach and be accountable for assessing research safety procedures and practices and developing creative, sustainable and compliant solutions that meet the operational needs of research personnel and are consistent with University standards and best practices. Through collaborations with EH&S colleagues and various University stakeholders and affiliates, Alex ensures effective and efficient implementation and management of biological, chemical and radiation safety program elements in alignment with the Research Safety Program Strategic Plan.

Biography

Alex was a Macaulay Honors student who earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biochemistry, with a minor in Sociology, from Hunter College. As an undergraduate Alex participated in the PrIMER research program in the Mailman School of Public Health’s department for Environmental Health Science. Alex later joined Mailman as a graduate student and completed a Master of Public Health degree with a concentration in Toxicology. While in graduate school, Alex worked as a part time student researcher in the Deyssenroth Lab exploring how epitranscriptomics can explain the relationship between air pollution and adverse health outcomes.
