Individuals who work with potentially volatile radioactivity must be monitored for ingestion or inhalation of radioactive materials. There are three areas of concern:
Tritium – unsealed form in excess of 100 mCi (3.7 GBq)
Research use of I-125 or I-131 – unsealed or dispersible form in excess of 1 mCi (37 MBq)
Iodine-131 radiopharmaceutical therapy – preparation or administration of I-131
