Machine Readable Datasets for COVID-19 Clinical Trials

Chunhua Weng, Associate Professor of Biomedical Informatics at the Data Science Institute

Researchers across the world are racing to conduct clinical trials related to COVID-19. However, many of these trials have significant redundancy as well as limited or biased target patient populations. We are developing an informatics pipeline using public data in ClinicalTrials.gov to enable transparency in these trials’ real-world representativeness using our previously published GIST tool, identify opportunities for collaborative recruitment and coordinated meta-analyses, minimize unnecessary local competition among trial investigators, and support real-time knowledge reuse and recruitment optimization in COVID-19 clinical trial design.
