Modeling the spread of COVID-19 worldwide

Thibault Vatter, Assistant Professor of Statistics, Department of Statistics

This project is an educational resource. The goal is for students to model the spread of COVID-19 worldwide, using data provided by Johns Hopkins University for the disease, and by the world bank for demographic information. By asking them to fill the blanks in a report template, we guide the students step by step. Through an initial exploratory data analysis, a model for a single country, and an improved worldwide model, the students are asked to produce visualizations, tables, and analysis of their results. This project also introduces the students to SIR epidemic models, and the technologies used are R, with an emphasis on the tidyverse, for the analytics, and RMarkdown to compile the report.
