Public Health Surveillance of Recent HIV Infection and Response under PEPFAR

Jessica Justman, Associate Professor of Medicine, Department of Epidemiology

The project aims to provide technical assistance for PEPFAR-supported countries to establish HIV recent infection surveillance to detect recent infections, monitor trends in the HIV epidemic, identify hot spots associated with recent HIV transmission, and inform programmatic interventions to reach epidemic control. ICAP supports 7 countries in sub-Saharan Africa to implement robust surveillance activities aimed at reaching epidemic control. In Rwanda, ICAP is supporting staff seconded to the government to support the Rwandan national COVID-19 response through: the establishment of call centers, supporting data management and contact tracing, and supporting national coordination and planning efforts around COVID-19.
