Difficult Conversations

Two-Part Series, participants must attend both sessions:

Monday, November 9th, 6-8PM
Thursday, November 12th, 6-8PM

Whether it is discussing your career plan with your PI, advocating for yourself on and off the job, or resolving an issue with your roommate, difficult conversations are a necessary part of life. Luckily (and with the right training), you have more control in how these conversations play out then you may think.

In this two-part series, you will examine how conversations become difficult when the stakes are high, emotions escalate and you fear damage to relationship or other negative consequences. You will explore how to decide whether or not to engage in a difficult conversation, how to look for a beneficial purpose to frame a conversation more helpfully, as well as how to stop falling into the trap of avoiding difficult conversations that really matter. Finally, you will discuss and practice mental preparation for and ways to engage in difficult conversations that make them more likely to be productive as well as how to try to rescue conversations that are going off track.
