Supporting the Provision of High Quality, Comprehensive, and Sustainable HIV Services in National Teaching and Referral Hospitals in the Republic of Kenya under PEPFAR

Elaine Abrams, Professor of Epidemiology and Pediatrics at the Columbia University Medical Center, Department of Epidemiology and Pediatrics

The purpose of this project is to decrease HIV incidence and reduce HIV-associated morbidity and mortality among the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Referral and Teaching Hospital (JOORTH) patient population by establishing a center of excellence (COE), and supporting the region in meeting HIV epidemic control targets. In strategic partnership with the Kenyan Ministry of Health (MoH), the National AIDS and STI Control Programme (NASCOP), various technical working groups (TWGs), the Kisumu County Health Management Team (CHMT) and Great Lakes University of Kisumu (GLUK), ICAP is implementing targeted interventions to achieve two overarching goals: (1) dramatically increase uptake and coverage of comprehensive, high-quality clinical HIV services through implementation of innovative and cutting-edge approaches and models of care, and (2) strengthen clinical health management systems to enable JOORTH to function as a regional training center of excellence for clinical activities. Under this overarching scope of work, ICAP will support purchase of COVID-19 related supplies such as sodium hypochlorite (bleach solution); hand sanitizer; liquid soap dispensers; infrared thermometers; and pulse oximeters for use with clients living with HIV at JOORTH.
